Saturday 11th May
- F.A. Vase Final - played @ Villa Park
Tiptree United 0, Whitley Bay 1 (0-0) after extra time
The driving rain was left behind as we headed out of East Anglia on
our way to Birmingham to offer our support to Tiptree United in the Vase Final.
We arrived at Villa Park in brilliant sunshine and had an excellent view of the
game - though it did seem strange to be sitting down to watch!
Tiptree played well but lacked a cutting edge with Aransibia's misplaced headed
from close range late on in normal time the only cause for concern all afternoon
for Caffrey in the Whitley goal. Jason Haygreen on the other hand made a number
of fine saves include a penalty save from Steve Locker after Wareham had brought
down Walmsley shortly after the interval.
With the temperature rising and legs tiring the Referee became busy with seven
Bay players going into the book and three from Tiptree mainly for late tackles.
In the seventh minute of extra time Ian Chandler headed home the decisive goal
and though Farlie rang the changes with the impressive Colin Wall pressed into attack
it was Whitley who looked the more likely to extend their lead.
The Jam Makers will be disappointed to have fallen at the last hurdle but they
will remember with pride their F.A. Vase exploits of season 2001-2002.
Monday 6th May
- Suffolk Premier Cup Final - played @ Hadleigh F.C.
AFC Sudbury 3, Felixstowe & Walton United 1 (1-1)
AFC
Sudbury celebrated winning the double as they added the Suffolk
Premier Cup to their trophy cabinet this afternoon following victory over a
spirited Felixstowe & Walton United.
The Seasiders surprised the League Champions with a goal in only the third
minute when, under pressure from Fuller, Bishop headed the ball past Nower into
the Sudbury goal. Sudbury responded swiftly and six minutes later
Gary Bennett was first to a looping ball into the area from Tracey
steering the ball over the advancing Charters. Ross Charters made a number of
excellent saves from Bennett, Claydon and Owen as the pressure mounted on the
Felixstowe goal with Ben Nower also at his best to deny a goalbound shot from
Bickers as Felixstowe continued to look dangerous on the break. At the interval
it was all square with Sudbury showing the attractive passing style of football
that has seen them claim 100 league points this season with the Seasiders
defending positively and breaking swiftly.
Felixstowe defended in depth after the break with Daniels, Ager, Clarke
and Kyle working hard to deny the dangerous Sudbury forwards. Charters made a
point bank save to deny Owen but the clearance fell to Aaron
Gardiner who guided his shot over the advancing Felixstowe goalkeeper to
claim the lead. Both sides were reduced to ten players mid-way through the
second half when Calver and Norfolk were dismissed following a confrontation
after a miss timed tackle from Calver. Sudbury continued to impress their
superiority on the game but with only a goal between the sides the game was far
from safe until Andy Claydon dribbled past two
defenders to slot the ball home under the advancing Charters with 20
minutes remaining.
Andy Crump worked hard down the felixstowe right and forged a rare second half
opportunity for Robbie Fuller who fired his shot just wide of a post with Nower
beaten. Sudbury relaxed in the closing stages and Crump went close for the
Seasiders with a powerful shot clearing the Sudbury cross bar.
Congratulations to AFC Sudbury on winning the Suffolk
Premier Cup and the Jewson Premier League title.
Saturday 27th April
- Jewson Premier League
Wroxham 6, Felixstowe & Walton United 1 (4-1)
The Yachtsmen were presented with their
Championship runners up medals following a comfortable 6-1 victory over
Felixstowe who were playing their last Premier Division game of the season.
The Seasiders
contributed to an entertaining game but were always second best to a skillful
and swift passing Wroxham side who had Darren Gill commanding the midfield. The
home side attacked from the kick off with Felixstowe clearing a first minute
corner with difficulty. A succession of corners followed and Fletcher went close
as the visitors defended in strength with Paul Ager a dominant figure at the
heart of the defence.
The break through came on 19 minutes when the ball fell lose to Jason
Fletcher 12 yards out and he placed the ball wide of Charters with an
overhead volley. Two minutes later Darren Gill
doubled the lead from all of 35 yards as he was given time to place his shot
over the advanced Charters. The visitors looked all at sea and Matty
Neale made ground on the right cut inside the area onto his left foot and
left fly an
unstoppable shot past the diving Charters and just inside the far post to
make it three goals in five minutes.
Andy Crump made a number of breaks down the right for Felixstowe and on 24
minutes his efforts were rewarded when his strong run and shot was parried only
as far as Robbie Fuller who hammered the ball home.
With spirits raised Felixstowe enjoyed a spell of pressure but went further
behind just before the break when Jason Fletcher
broke from the half way line and lobbed the ball over the advancing Charters to
score his second.
The game flowed end to end after the break with
Simon Daniels going close twice for the visitors. He will be disappointed not to
have been on target from 8 yards with time to place his shot but fired over the
bar. Daniels later met Barker's corner to head powerfully on target but Horton
was on hand to clear off the line.
Ross Charters made a brilliant one handed save to deny Howe's blistering shot at
the expense of a corner and then saved with his legs to block Gill's effort as
the cross came in.
On the hour Justin Fox hit a low shot which was
deflected past the stranded Charters for number five and with time running down Damion
Hilton slotted home the 6th goal from close range after ball ran lose in
the Felixstowe area.
Saturday 20th April
- Jewson Premier League
Felixstowe & Walton United 0, Mildenhall Town 3
(0-1)
A special day for Mick Thorpe as he Refereed
his last Jewson League game before
moving
on to the Nationwide League next season. Club Chairman Tony Barnes presented
Mick with a bottle of Champaign and a silver salver to mark the occasion. Mick
has always been highly respected by the Seasiders who were honoured to have him
officiate at their last home game. Mick is wished every success in the Football
League and we will be following his progress with interest.
The Seasiders maintained their record of not winning a home game on a Saturday
with Mildenhall comfortably claiming all three points. In the summer sunshine
the game held little of note until the opening goal on 20 minutes when
Mildenhall earned a corner on the Felixstowe right. Pope took the corner kick
with Gawthorpe heading on at the near post for Vinny Long
to head home the goal that the
visitors neat build up play had deserved. Charters saved well from Ogilvie from
close range following a good run from Nunn as Mildenhall continued to find space
down the Seasiders left flank. The home side enjoyed a spell of pressure on the
half hour and a number of well struck corners from Barker saw Ager heading over
and then just wide of a post. Crump blocked Nunn's cross at the expense of a
corner as the half drew to a close with Mildenhall in control.
Felixstowe went in search of a reply after the break with a strong run from
Knights ending with his shot passing Thorpe's left had upright. Bolt had a shot
blocked before Daniels blocked a shot from Salmons as Mildenhall steadily
regained control of the game with the Seasiders fading as the half progressed. Andy
Chatters doubled the lead in the 62nd minute when he guided the
ball over the advancing Charters from the angle of the area into the empty
net. Felixstowe's best attempt on goal came on 68 minutes when Thorpe was forced
to palm Fuller's powerful header over the bar for a corner. The visitors quickly
replied with Salmons firing over the bar and Charters saving at point blank
range from McGregor's header following a Chatters corner. Mark
Nunn confirmed the win in injury time when he was first to a loose ball
in the home area and slid the ball home off the inside of Charter's right hand
post from 12 yards.
Saturday 6th April
- Jewson Premier League
Lowestoft Town 2, Felixstowe & Walton United 3 (2-2)
Ricky Deasy returned to the starting line up and rifled home the winner for the
Seasiders with nine minutes of this entertaining and absorbing game remaining.
Felixstowe started brightly but having failed to score for seven consecutive
league games an away win looked most unlikely after Lowestoft had taken a two
goal lead with a brace from Gary McGee in the 36th
and 37th minutes.
A minute later Nicky Barker, playing a Captains
game for the visitors, struck a free kick from wide on the left with the ball
beating everyone including the unsighted Bligh in the home goal. On the stroke
of half time Barker again let fly with a free kick
from 25 yards which again flew unhindered into the Lowestoft goal to bring the
sides level at the break.
McGee narrowly missed claiming a hat-trick in the second-half but his
powerful header struck the cross bar and the ball was cleared to safety. Stokeld
went close on a number of occasions as the home side held the upper hand but the
Seasiders defended doggedly and always looked dangerous on the break through
Berry and Deasy. The deciding goal came on 81 minutes when a through ball from
McCormack found
Ricky Deasy on-side and in space.
The Felixstowe no.9 struck out towards goal and with defenders closing in
unleashed a right foot shot that beat the diving Bligh at his near post.
Lowestoft went close to an equaliser with Charters saving Stokeld's shot and
McGee spooning the loose ball over the bar as the clock ran down leaving the
Seasiders to celebrate a notable victory.

Saturday 30th March
- Jewson Premier League
Clacton Town 0, Felixstowe & Walton United 0 (0-0)
Felixstowe & Walton United gained a valuable and well earned point from the
match between the seaside Clubs in an evenly contested and entertaining if
goalless game.
The first half saw plenty of commitment but little goal mouth action with
Roberts going closest for Clacton and Bickers heading wide of an upright in the
closing stages of the half.
Clacton produced good build up play with neat inter-passing but could not find
the final ball as the Felixstowe defence marked closely and contested every
ball. Gibbs cleared a dangerous cross after the break with Clewley heading
narrowly wide from the resultant corner. Charters collided with
Howe as he
bravely punched a corner clear. Both sides could have sealed the points in the
closing minutes with Bailey failing to get power into his shot with Charters to
beat and Stanbridge stood tall and saw Howard fire over the bar when clear.
If this form can be maintained Premiership football could yet be secured for
next season.

Saturday 23rd March
- Jewson Premier League
Dereham Town 2, Felixstowe & Walton United 0 (1-0)
Despite playing for over an hour with ten players the Magpies collected all
three points with a goal in each half.
The Seasiders
started brightly in the sunshine and forced two corners in the first minute of
the game. Dereham however quickly gained the upper hand and Charters made a fine
one handed save to deny Barratt as he powerfully headed Christie's cross
goalbound with Chris Kyle on hand to clear the lose ball. Dereham went
ahead on nine minutes following a
good cross from Henman that was powerfully headed home by
Robert Stevens.
Ferguson saw red on 24 minutes after needlessly kicking out at Kyle reducing the
home side to ten. Felixstowe enjoyed a greater share of possession as the half
progressed with West making two good saves to deny Fuller and Calver with
Stevens going close for Dereham with a long range shot.
Seconds after the
restart the Magpies doubled their advantage through Graham
Barratt who forced home Adam's low hard cross from close range.
Dereham defended in depth from this point but looked the most likely to score as
they broke dangerously on a regular basis. McGuire should have sewn the game up
but fired wide of an open goal after Adcock had beaten the offside trap. West
was quickly off his line to deny Fuller as Felixstowe pressed but he was not
forced to make a save of note and the Magpies ran down the clock to claim all
three points .
Saturday 16th March
- Jewson Premier League
Gorleston 2, Felixstowe & Walton United 0 (1-0)
Looking to build on the Suffolk Premier Cup success in midweek the Seasiders
were dealt a body blow after only 66 seconds of this afternoons match at Emerald
Park when Scott Lindsay fired home from Ingrams
header to give the Greens the early
lead.
Felixstowe earned the first corner of the game following a strong run from Deasy
but it was the home side that dominated the first half with Snowling, Wooldridge,
Bishop, Gillings and Turner all going close to extending the lead before the
break.
A more evenly contested second half saw Soloman, in the Gorleston goal, produce
an excellent save to deny Ager with Charters at his very best to make a finger
tip save to parry Ingrams shot over the bar for a corner. On 65 minutes
Felixstowe were reduced to ten players when Andy Clarke was dismissed for
holding back Ingram on the edge of the area. With only a one goal deficit the
points were never certain until eight minutes from time when a Glenn
Turner shot from 20 yards flew past the unsighted Charters to move
Gorleston into fifth place in the table and increase Felixstowe's worries of
relegation.

Felixstowe & Walton United Res. 3, Rowhedge 1 (1-1) ESBL
Without 1st Team action
this afternoon attention focused on the Reserves who were at home to relegation
threatened Rowhedge in the Premier Division of the Essex & Suffolk Border
League.
Rowhedge bellied their league position with a competitive first half performance
which saw them take the lead through Ricky Chown on
seven minutes with a well taken shot over the Felixstowe wall following a free
kick. Stuart Swift leveled the scores four minutes
later hooking the ball in from
10
yards after his initial shot had been blocked but not cleared. Both sides went
close with long range shots and Williams made a double save to deny the visitors
as they pressed towards the break.
After the interval Rowhedge attacks were limited to breakaways as the home side
took the advantage. Danny Robinson, a half time substitute,
put the Seasiders ahead four minutes after the restart from the penalty spot
following a hand ball decision. The points were sealed on 55 minutes when Gavin
Moss broke through the visiting defence to beat Sharpe with a shot off the
post.

Cooper doubled the lead five minutes later with a diving header as the
Seasiders took control of the game. St Osyth went in search of a response after
the interval with Williams having to be alert in the the home goal. David
Winship dented the visitors revival with a cross shot on 55 minutes
and Gavin Moss confirmed the win with fifteen
minutes remaining.

The Seasiders earned a hard fought point from a
competitive game against fourth placed Gorleston at Dellwood Avenue this
afternoon.
John Bickers struck the bar as Felixstowe had the better of the early play but
on
14 minutes Robert Fleck made a pin point pass to the nimble Philip
Wooldridge who threaded the ball past the advancing Charters. The home
defence held firm with Knights, Daniels and Ager outstanding in defence as
the pacey Green's forwards searched for the second goal. Slowly the Seasiders
regained the advantage they had held at the start of the game and equalised on
36 minutes with a well taken goal from Robbie Fuller following
a telling pass from the ever dangerous Ricky Deasy pictured.
Gorleston dominated the early stages of the second half with Ross Charters
making saves from Ingram and Fleck before Fuller produced the home sides first
strike on goal on the hour. Both sides went close to scoring the winner with
White's shot striking Felixstow's Barker on the goal line and Deasy seeing his
shot saved by Cooper in the visitors goal.
Both Managers will consider that they did enough to have won the game but
supporters left the ground happy with a point and agreeing that a draw was a
fair result.

Robbie Fuller pictured
hammered home a vital 90th minute winner to record the
first
away victory of the season and lift the Seasiders off the bottom of the table.
John Bickers headed the opening goal from Sadler's
cross after five minutes as Felixstowe started brightly. Newmarket steadily
increased their share of possession with Rhodes making a number of incisive runs
down the left wing. The equaliser came on 37 minutes following a corner which
was not adequately cleared and after Charters had saved from Rhodes Paul
Stokes fired the ball home from close range.
Charters was thankful to Knights and Ager for goal line clearances in the second
half as both sides went in search of the winner. Andy Oxbrough in the Jockey's
goal produced two finger tip saves to deny first Deasy and then help the
resultant corner from Barker over the cross bar. With the game heading for a
draw Robbie Fuller scored the winner from 10 yards
after Oxbrough failed to punch clear and the ball dropped into the path of the
Felixstowe number nine.
An important win for the Seasiders which was warmly greeted by the travelling
faithful. Next game is on Saturday when we welcome Robert Fleck's Gorleston team
to Dellwood Avenue.

An entertaining, but goalless game this afternoon
in the Autumn Sunshine at Dellwood Avenue.
An end to end first half with few clear scoring opportunities saw Yarmouth's
Charlton come closest with his shot cannoning off the cross bar before
Felixstowe's Man of the Match Ross Charters collected the ball. Nick Banham in
the visitors goals saved twice from Bickers and was quickly off his line to deny
Deasy.
After the break it only seemed only a matter of time before a goal would result
and on 51 minutes Sutton's shot nearly broke the deadlock but Banham saved well
at the expense of a corner from which Ager fired over under pressure. Charters
saved well from Robert George and dived bravely at the feet of Josh Barzey to
collect as the Yarmouth forward raced in.
Substitute David Lawrence produced a mazey run which was scrambled away for a
corner with the dominant Charters collecting Humphry's corner under pressure. A
late goal would have been cruel on either side with the draw a fair result.

Fakenham dominated the game from start to finish
at Clipbush Park this afternoon with the Seasiders grateful to the
woodwork and Ross Charters in the visitors goal for keeping the goal tally to

After Dickerson, Mortimer and Coe had all gone close for the Ghosts the opening
goal came on 21 minutes through Stewart Barker who
struck an excellent left footed shot passed Charters from the edge of the area.
The Seasiders only
opening
of the first half came on 27 minutes when Deasy flashed a shot wide following a
good through ball from Bickers. Three consecutive corners on 39 minutes ended
with Andrew Gleave heading home unchallenged for
Fakenham's second.
The pressure on the Seasiders goal continued after the break with Gilmore and
Mortimer both striking a post before Gary Gilmore pictured
finished off a flowing move to fire home from ten yards. Ghost's captain Wayne
Coe completed the scoring when he headed home the fourth from a Gleave

With the Woodpeckers holding a three goal lead and
strolling to a comfortable win two goals in a minute from the Seasiders
produced an excellent finale to the game, with the home side nervously holding

Ian Brown got the home side off to the best
possible start as he headed home
Winship's
attempted pass to his keeper after only four minutes. Andy
Coote left was brought down in the area by Winship with Coote
brushing himself down and firing home from the spot. On the hour the game looked
all over as a contest when Mark Bailey shot low
from the edge of the box to establish a three goal lead for the home side.
Robbie Fuller had gone close for the visitors on
two occasions and with 17 minutes remaining he met a telling through ball from
substitute Mark Sutton to fire home from eight yards. Before there was time to
draw breath the lead had been reduced to one goal with the persistent Ricky
Deasy slotting home the Seasider's second goal following a telling

their visitors, but Bungay dug deep and were rewarded with a 25 yard pile driver
from Paul Shipley. Ricketts
headed home to complete his hat trick on 37 minutes to give the home side a two
goal advantage at the break.
The second half saw constant pressure from the home side with Bungay looking
dangerous on the break, but it was no until the last minute that the Bungay
