Premier Division
Rowhedge 4,
Felixstowe & Walton Utd. Reserves 1 (2-0)
The League Title is still within the grasp of
Rowhedge, with one game remaining, following victory over the Seasiders at the
Recreation Ground this evening.
With a 6.30 kick
the visitors arrived with just a few minutes to spare and were quickly on the
defence. The home side moved quickly into their stride in the search for the win
that would keep their title hopes alive going into the last game of the season,
at home to Clacton on Thursday. Sadler produced the
opening goal inside three minutes when he fired home from eight yards with the
Felixstowe defence closing in. Six minutes later Collins
doubled the score and the visitors were
in danger of being over-run. Woods and Berry steadily improved their share of
possession and though not threatening the home goal took the pressure off the
defence which was not breached again before the interval.
The young Felixstowe side fought hard for possession but the strength of
Rowhedge restricted scoring opportunities and 16 minutes after the break the
lead was extended from a free kick that was powerfully headed home by Gilbert.
Five minutes later the game was put beyond doubt as Chown
scored from the penalty spot to make the score 4-0. Continuing to play to the
final whistle Felixstowe were rewarded with a consolation goal from Hunn.

Congratulations to all the players and Management Team from everyone at the club following a difficult season that has resulted in relegation but throughout spirits have maintained high. Much has been learned and the players and team will be the stronger for that.
Saturday 1st March 2003 - ESBL
Premier Division
Felixstowe & Walton Utd. Reserves 1, West Bergholt 3 (0-1)
League Leaders
West Bergholt were pegged back into their own half
of the field for the majority of the first period and were grateful to
Steve Martin who scored twice to ensure maximum
points. The young home side contributed fully to an entertaining game with
experience proving the key factor for the visitors in the second half.
West Bergholt
resisted sustained pressure from the home side to open the scoring on 10 minutes
following their second attack of the game. The Felixstowe defence failed to
clear their lines and when the ball was delivered back into the area
Martin swooped to head home from six yards. The
Seasiders responded almost immediately when Etti broke into the Bergholt area
and having rounded the keeper saw the ball cleared by Llewllyn as he prepared to
slot the ball home. Anderson and Hunn defended well as the visitors attacks
increased and Capon showed his pace on the wing to deliver a ball to Etti who
just failed to hit the target.
When Martin struck his second from close range six
minutes after the break it could have seen heads drop but within two minutes the
Seasiders struck back. Collecting the ball on the half way line Berry strode
forward and played an excellent defence splitting pass to
Ross Gabriel who took the ball in his stride, drew the keeper and struck
the ball home with confidence to record his first senior goal.
The decisive moment came on 66 minutes when substitute Fern received the ball
just inside the Felixstowe half of the field, the Referee waved aside the
Assistant's flag for off-side allowing Fern to
gallop forward and slide the ball under the advancing Morgan. Bergholt tightened
their grip on the game with Burch and Cocker preventing the busy Felixstowe
forwards from obtaining a clear sight of Clarke's goal to gain maximum points.
The young Felixstowe side will have gained confidence from this performance
against the league leaders.

Clacton Town Res. 4,
Felixstowe & Walton Utd. Res. 1
(3-1)
With their
respective 1st Teams not in action today both Clubs strengthened their Reserve
sides for this bottom of the table clash at the Bowl. Two first half goals from
Sean Hiller proved decisive as the home side showed a sharper cutting edge than
Felixstowe, who had their share of possession but rarely troubled the Clacton
keeper.
The home side were ahead after only two minutes when the unfortunate Andy Clarke
diverted a fierce cross into his own net with Charters stranded. Felixstowe
earned their first corner of the game in the 32nd minute and David Thurkettle
scored directly from the corner kick with a powerful in-swinging drive which
found the top corner of the net. Three minutes later the home side were back in
front with Sean Hillier
firing home from 10 yards. Hillier's pace continued to upset the visitors and
six minutes later he picked up a long through ball and outpaced a square back
line to fire home his second from 18 yards. Etti went close to a reply before
the interval with a shot on target blocked at the expense of a corner.
A deep cross from Thurkettle, heading for the top corner of goal, was
palmed away by the Clacton keeper as Felixstowe looked to reduce the deficit
quickly after the interval but it proved to be visitors only shot on target in
the second half. Clacton went close on a number of occasions but it was 10
minutes from time before the fourth goal was scored following a corner. Charters
bravely denied Hiller his hat trick as the game came to a close with the home
side good value for their three points.
Saturday 11th January 2003 - ESBL
Premier Division
Felixstowe & Walton Utd. Reserves 1, Rowhedge 2 (0-1)
The Seasiders welcomed 3rd in the table Rowhedge to a sunny Dellwood
Avenue this
afternoon with the pitch in excellent condition for the game
following a morning inspection.
Gordon was quickly onto the attack for the visitors with Clarke clearing the
danger at the expense of a corner in the first minute. Macklin shot wide from
Chown's cross as Rowhedge looked for the early goal and Moss volleyed wide for
Felixstowe as he followed up on Coopers blocked shot in the third minute. After
a lively start the game settled into a midfield contest with controlled passing
and neat build up play from both sides but with little goal mouth action. On the
half hour Page fired over the bar after the impressive Macklin had produced a
telling ball into the home area. Felixstowe's 16 year old keeper Matt Morgan
dived
bravely at the Chown to deny a goalscoring opportunity in the 37th minute
but could do little to prevent Scott Page from
scoring with a powerful header three minutes later following an excellent run
and cross from Macklin.
Felixstowe went in search of a quick equaliser after the break but it was Morgan
who produced another fine save to deny Chown after he had been put clear by a
deep cross-field pass from Page. In the 55th minute the sides were level
following a solo goal from Gavin Moss who defeated
three defenders on his run from the half way line before sliding the ball under
the advancing Cottee, pictured right.
Rowhedge gradually gained control with Collins twice going close and
Halajko's fierce drive saved by Morgan as they stepped up the pace. With 12
minutes remaining Morgan saved Gary Bloom's initial
shot but the ball was not cleared and Bloom rifled home at the second attempt to
enable the visitors to claim all three points.
Wednesday 27th November 2002
- Chell Trophy
Felixstowe & Walton Utd. 0, Mildenhall Town 2 (0-1)
Mildenhall progressed to the semi-finals of the Chell trophy with a goal
in each half at Dellwood Avenue this evening. Almond struck the post on 20
minutes as the visitors took the game to the home side and the opening goal came
just 2 minutes later with Crick volleying home the
lose ball from 12 yards after the Felixstowe defence failed to clear their
lines. McCarthy went close to an equaliser minutes later but his curling shot
beat both the diving Banstead and the far post. Williams saved well to deny
Abbott as Mildenhall finished the half strongly.
Felixstowe worked hard for an equaliser with Banstead saving from McCarthy but
it was the visitors who posed the greater threat. On the hour
Abbott ran unopposed from 35 yards and placed his
shot past the diving Williams to seal the result and deservedly go into the draw
for the semi's - we wish the well.
Wednesday 16th October 2002 - Chell Trophy
Tiptree United 1, Felixstowe & Walton United 2
On a cold damp evening in Tiptree, playing in a Jewson league reserve side cup
competition with several regulars being called up to the first team for league
duties, you could have
assumed
the worst would happen. However, four players came of age and turned in a game
they should be proud of. Mathew Morgan (Goal) Lee Parry (Right back) Aiden
Sharpe (Centre forward) and Bradley Capon (Left Midfield). All of these lads are
currently U18 squad members and with the help of Andy Phillips, will I am sure
become regular 1st team players of the future.
We started the game very brightly with Paul
Smith and Jason Barker
controlling the central midfield area. On 30 minutes after some fine work from
Danny Woods, Gavin Moss turned well in the
box to fire home low into the bottom corner. We continued to control the game
for the remainder of the first half.
Half time 0-1
Tiptree came out all guns blazing from the start of the second half and for 15
minutes reduced us to defending deep and eventually they equalised after a good
cross from our right was tapped home from close range. All of our substitutes
were introduced for players tiring and it raised our game again.
Gavin Evans having to drop into a strange
central midfield roll scored a fine goal from the edge of the area on 75 minutes
and this took all of the steam out of the Tiptree and from then on they never
really troubled us again.
Man of the match for me had to be John Hope who was never troubled all evening
and I think if he could get fitter will be a first team regular. (That means
training John)
Saturday 12th October 2002
Felixstowe & Walton Utd.
Reserves 2, Haughley United 3 (1-0) - Suffolk Senior
Cup 1st round
An injury time goal from Ashley Hawes took Haughley
United through to the second round of the Suffolk Senior Cup at Dellwood Avenue
this afternoon to complete a late recovery for the SIL side.
Despite enjoying
the greater share of first half possession the visitors lacked a cutting edge in
front of goal and Swift went closest to scoring as Clarke in the Haughley goal
deflected his shot onto the bar after 7 minutes. Moss had a goal ruled offside
before the home side took the lead on 26 minutes. Gavin
Evans, having joined the game moments earlier as a substitute for Winship,
drilled the ball under the diving Clarke following a good run and pass from
Moss. Oakes had a low shot saved by Cooper as the interval approached with
Haughley finishing the half strongly.
After the break the visitors continued to press with Hogan shooting wide
following a good run and cross from Hawes and Cooper saved well to deny Hogan at
the expense of a corner.
The equaliser came in the 74th minute when the Seasider's defence failed to
clear Bennett's corner with Neil Hogan claiming the
final touch in a crowded goalmouth.
Gavin Moss reclaimed the lead
three minutes later when he raced onto a long ball
out of defence from Hope and fired the ball under the diving Clarke. The home
side looked to be holding on for a place in the next round but with three
minutes remaining Robert Grover looked to have
taken the game into extra time with a well taken shot from 16 yards.
With Mr Smith checking both his watches Ashley Hawes,
looking suspiciously off-side, collected the ball wide on the right and wasted
no time in racing toward goal and drilling the ball under the diving Cooper to
take his side through to the next round.
The very best of luck to Haughley United in the next Round.

Weeley Athletic 4,
Felixstowe & Walton Utd. Res 2 (1-1)
The Reserves first game for three games with Mike Chambers and Assistant Stuart Stevenson in charge saw a number of late changes to the side due to illness and injury. However, we were by far the better side in the first half with several chances falling to Swifty and Mossy and neither being able to put the ball away. It took a very special goal from a bright young talent in Aiden Sharpe to break the deadlock. With the Weeley keeper caught off his line Aiden executed the perfect lob from all of 25 yards. We continued to push without being threatened until in first half injury time when from a speculative cross and a missed timed clearance Weeley equalised on the whistle.
We began the second half as though all the good work from the first did not
count and for some reason we started to panic every time we were attacked.
Weeley scored their second on 57 minutes from confusion between Dom Cooper and
Leon Wiggins, both went to attack the same header neither got near it leaving
the Weeley player through to slot home. Things went from bad to worse with
Weeley scoring their third from more confusion at the back giving them a simple
tap in. We tried to raise the tempo but conceded a fourth from a stinging 25
yard volley. At 4-1 down away from home you would not think there could be
positive things to take from a match, you would be wrong, with 15 minutes to go
Jimmy Ricketts made his come back after over a year out with a badly broken leg.
His class immediately began to tell as he made several fine through passes and
eventually Gavin Moss scored our second with 5
minutes to go from such a pass.
Players to watch Aiden Sharpe, Lee Parry & the returning James Ricketts.

Felixstowe & Walton Utd. Res 1, Gas Rec. 3
The Reserves entertained Gas Rec in the ESBL this afternoon and were
defeated 3-1 with the Seasider's goal scored by Dave Winship from the penalty
spot.
After guiding the Reserves to the Premier Division two seasons ago
Kevin Welton
is standing down as Team Manager due to work commitments. We all thank Kevin for
the dedication and hard work he has put into the Reserve Team, wishing him every
success in the future and trust he will keep in touch as he will always be
welcome at the Club.
Mike Chambers steps up to be Reserve Team Manager with Jimmy Stevenson his
Assistant - all the very best lads.
Tuesday 11th September 2002
- Chell Trophy
Felixstowe & Walton Utd. Res 4, Clacton Town Res. 3 after
extra time (3-3 at 90 mins)
A penalty in extra time from David Winship
settled the tie in favour if the Seasiders following a game that ebbed and
flowed with no more than one goal separating the sides throughout.
Mark White opened the scoring for the visitors on
nine minutes when he stabbed the ball home from six yards following a well
taken corner from Lee. Martin Smedley levelled the
scores on the half hour when he converted Robinson's cross from the left. A
powerful shot from Robbie Evans was tipped onto the bar by Worsten with Danny
Smith the quickest to react to put the home side into the lead. On the stroke of
half time Mark White scored his second
with a well
taken shot from the left that defeated the diving Cooper finding the net off the
right hand upright.
The high tempo continued after the break and Michael Owen
scored from close range six minutes after the interval to put the visitors back
into the lead which they held until seven minutes from time when
Danny Robinson swept home a cross from Danny Smith
to take the game into extra time.
With legs tiring Cullip made a clumsy challenge on Winship with
David Winship
picking himself up to fire home the winner and claim the victory following an
entertaining game.
Saturday 24th August 2002 - ESBL
Felixstowe & Walton United Reserves 2, AFC Sudbury Reserves 0
The Seasiders played Sudbury 3 times last season conceeding 4 goals and scoring 0.
The home side started well with new signing Gavin Evans
causing the Sudbury defence problems. Sudbury played their usual controlled
passing game but after 25 minutes Gavin Evans
latched onto a fine through ball to slot home from 15 yards. Felixstowe created
several more good chances in the first half but failed to capitalise on
them.
After the break Felixstowe continued playing fine flowing football, with good performances from Andy Crump, Andy Clarke and Chippy reducing Sudbury to long range shots without really troubling Steve Williams in the Felixstowe goal. On the hour mark and after some fine midfield work from the tireless Jim Andrews Gavin Evans broke away with pace again to slot home from 10 yards to wrap up the points and give the Seasiders a great start with two wins.
Saturday 17th August 2002
Kelvedon Social 0, Felixstowe & Walton Utd. Reserves 2
- ESBL Premier Division
Two first half goals from Stuart Swift saw the Reserves
collect three points from their
opening game of the
new season with a win at sunny Kelvedon.
The home side started brightly with Dawson and Upton testing the visiting
defence in the early exchanges. The Seasiders steadily increased their influence
on the game with Ben Quade in the home goal making a number of fine saves before
Stuart Swift fired home at the near post on 26
minutes following a neat interchange between Robinson and Berry.
Matt Akers had an opportunity six minutes later to level after he was
brought down by Clarke but he rifled his penalty kick over the visitors goal.
Alex Williams made a run from midfield with his cross finding Swift at the far
post which Swift shot over the bar with Berry also going close.
On the the stroke of half-time Stuart Swift went on
a solo run and found the net with the aid of a deflection.
After the interval Kelvedon pressed for a reply with Wiggins and Williams both
making goal line clearances to preserve the scoreline. Both sides maintained the
tempo in the heat to the end with the Seasiders claiming the points.
