First Team Match Reports for Season 2006-2007

Saturday 5th May 2007 - Ridgeons League Premier Division
Cambridge R.C.  2 - 0  Felixstowe & Walton United  (1-0)

Felixstowe: Paul Cudworth, Darcy De'ath, Alan Mills, Matt Morgan, Stuart Simmons, James Peachey, Terry Layton, James Buckle, Danny Phillips, Dwayne Edwards, Lewis Pemberton.
An evenly contested game at the Abbey Stadium this afternoon with the Seasiders enjoying a good share of possession but lacking the decisive touch in front of goal.  McShane in the home goal saved acrobatically to palm Mills' header over the bar in the first half but was rarely troubled after that. McAuley opened the scoring two minutes from the break heading home from Willmott's free kick as the home side held a narrow interval lead.
Felixstowe produced lengthy spells of pressure in the second period without testing McShane and with fifteen minutes remaining Willmott confirmed the points for CRC with a well struck shot from ten yards.
The final whistle blew on a good first season back in the Premier Division and we all look forward to a good break and a return to League action in August.

An Excellent surface enabled both teams to produce an open game of football with both sets of players looking to play football top feet. The young Cambridge side had the better of the first half with Wixon heading onto a post - pictured left - with Cudworth beaten. McShane in the home goal produced a finger tip save to deny Mills - Pictured right - as Felixstowe enjoyed a good spell with Edwards' impressing.

CRC increased the pressure before the break with Buckle blocking Bussens' goal bound effort before Rory McAuley (below - Number 2) rose above the rest in a crowded goalmouth to head home the opener from a  free Kick three minutes before the interval.

Going into the game CRC still had a mathematical chance of relegation but with the two teams below looking to make up ten goals, and for CRC to lose, their position looked very comfortable, especially at half time.

Buckle, Morgan and Pemberton all went close in a second half that saw Felixstowe enjoy the greater share of possession but without a decisive touch in front of goal. Phillips carved open an excellent opportunity with a dazzling run down the right but his shot flew across the CRC goal and wide. 

Morgan - pictured left -  increased his presence in the home area as Felixstowe went in search of an equaliser before a defensive error saw CRC open up a two goal lead. After Felixstowe failed to clear their lines the busy Robbie Willmott took his chance well siezing on the loose ball twelve yards out to rifle home under the diving Cudworth.

Cudworth produced a good save low at a post to keep out the lively O'neill as CRC looked likely to increase their lead as the final whistle approached.

The Seasiders finished the season in 13th position in the table, an excellent result in this our first season back in the Premier Division.

The final home game of the season resulted in only the second goalless draw for both Felixstowe and Lynn.
Both sides played neat flowing box to box but with little goalmouth action neither keeper was tested until five minutes before the interval. A battling run from Andy Crump created an opening for Felixstowe with his shot well saved by McAnally at the expense of a corner.
Cudworth in the home goal tipped  Spriggs' dipping shot over the bar and Harvey headed wide from the resulting corner kick just before the half time whistle.
McAnally turned Janacek's strike away for a corner and Cudworth saved with his feet to deny Spriggs but with the second half following a similar pattern to the first scoring opportunities were at a premium despite skilful moves from both sides.
Fifth from bottom Lynn, with two games remaining, require a point from Wednesday's game at CRC to confirm Premier Division status for next season.

Saturday 21st April 2007 - Ridgeons League Premier Division

Dereham finished the game comfortable winners with three second half goals after Felixstowe had looked the most likely to score before the break.
Edwards saw a header cleared off the line and Buckle struck the outside of a Dereham post in a first half of limited chances for either side but with Felixstowe looking in control of their own destiny.
After the interval Dereham stepped up a gear, Atkins forcing Cudworth in the home goal to produce his first save of the game low to his right at the expense of a corner. Camidge saved well to deny Edwards and quickly switched defence into attack for Dereham to open the scoring on 62 minutes as
Barrett broke quickly with his cross turned home by Sam Willis. Twelve minutes later substitute Jordan Blyth scored with his first kick of the game and only a minute later the points were secure when Graham Barrett slotted home following Terrington's free kick.

Saturday 14th April 2007 - Ridgeons League Premier Division
Wroxham  4 - 3 Felixstowe & Walton United  (2-0)

Having conceded six goals in the reverse fixture two weeks previously, the Seasiders pushed the league leaders much closer at Trafford Park losing by just the odd goal in seven.
Gilmore after eight minutes and Key after eighteen looked to have set Wroxham on their way to another comfortable win but they failed to press home their advantage with the Felixstowe defence resolute and Cudworth producing a number of fine saves.
Two own goals from the home side, under pressure from Edwards and Phillips, saw the sides level on the hour mark with the Yachtsmen looking decidedly nervous as the Seasiders confidence grew. Tyrie scored Wroxam's third twenty minutes from time and Thompson the fourth six minutes later. There was still time for Frost to drill home from the edge of the area but Wroxham withstood late pressure to claim all three points.

One change in the Felixstowe line-up from the goalless Easter Monday game at home to Ipswich Wanderers with Shun Pugh on the wing for the unavailable Matt Stanbridge.

In bright warm sunshine Wroxham attacked from the off with Thompson striking a post after only two minutes as the Yachtsmen showed considerable movement in and around the Felixstowe area. Howes shot wide before Gary Gilmore forced home the opener after eight minutes following good work from Key to create the opportunity.

Edwards looked on his game for Felixstowe and his cross to the near post was met by Phillips on 13 minutes, but stretching the League's top goal-scorer steered the ball over the bar.
Wroxham extended their lead on 18 minutes as Andy Key rose at the far post to head home from Pauling's cross, while all attention from the Felixstowe defence was on the dangerous Thompson.

Woodcock in the home goal got two fists to Pugh's cross with Frost firing wide the loose ball as Felixstowe looked to respond, but despite creating a number of half chances it was Wroxham who looked like extending their lead.  Keys struck the Felixstowe cross bar with Cudworth making a vital point-blank save to deny Thompson as he pounced on the re-bound.

Less than one minute after the restart Felixstowe were once again saved by the wood-work as Keys struck the bar from Thompson's cross. Less then five minutes later the game was to take a decided turn when Cudworth's deep clearing kick bounced on the edge of the Wroxham area with the unfortunate Howes, under pressure from Edwards, steering the ball over the advanced Woodcock.
On the hour it was all square  when Phillip's shot was cleared off the line by Tyrie, only for his hurried clearance to strike Woodcock and rebound back into the net.

Encouraged Felixstowe pressed on winning a number of corners and Buckle putting his shot into the side netting. Wroxham gathered their composure and David Tyrie regained the lead turning home a free kick from four yards out.
Ben Thompson scored the fourth with a neat turn and shot from Lemmon's free kick with fifteen minutes remaining but Felixstowe were not finished with Gavin Frost drilling home from the edge of the area for the Seasider's third in stoppage time.

The league leaders secured the points to remain on course for the Championship but the Seasiders can be pleased with a spirited performance.

Monday 9th April 2007 - Ridgeons League Premier Division
Felixstowe & Walton United   0 -  0  Ipswich Wanderers 
Felixstowe: Paul Cudworth, James Peachey, Ben Wyard, Gavin Frost, Stuart Simmons, Alan Mills, Matt Stanbridge (Andy Crump 66), James Buckle, Danny Phillips, Dwayne Edwards, Lewis Pemberton.
Unused subs: James Heathcote, Ashley Phillips, Danny Crump, Steve Buckle.
Goals are usually guaranteed at Felixstowe games but a good sized bank holiday crowd witnessed the Seasiders first scoreless game of the season in the local derby with neighbours Ipswich Wanderers.
Alan Mills returned to the heart of the defence to have an outstanding game but once again changes were forced on the Management Team with  Ben Wyard making his maiden start for the first team and Matt Stanbridge starting for the first time in over seven years,

Ashley Phillips was also drafted in from the under 18s as the injury count rose prior to kick off.
On a sunny afternoon the re-shuffled side performed well with Wyard pictured right confidently defending and pushing forward down the left.
 

Stannard in the visitors goal was the busier of the two keepers in the first half saving from Edwards, Phillips and Frost as the Seasiders created the better openings in the first period.

The first clear opening fell to Edwards after eight minutes as Felixstowe made a lively start with his well struck shot testing Stannard who was equal to the challenge.

Lowe's shot was blocked by Pemberton at the expense of a corner after 15 minutes as both sides pressed but it was Felixstowe who created the clearer openings with Stannard making a good save to tip Phillips' dipping volley over the bar ten minutes before the break and he repeated the save five minutes later as Frost's long range strike rose viciously off the hard surface with the Wanderer's keeper reacting quickly to deal with the danger.

Rachel, Banya and Bennett linked well and though their threat was ever present Simmons, Mills, Peachey and Wyard ensured that Cudworth was not unduly troubled in the first half.

Wanderers stepped up a gear in the second half with the introduction of Smy, Francis and Tourney-Godfrey adding pace and purpose to the Wanderer's front line.
Francis and Owen were narrowly wide with well struck shots before Cudworth pictured produced a first class save at full stretch to his right to deny Bennett's goal bound strike.
Felixstowe defended well and turned the tide with Crump, Edwards and Phillips all threatening on the break.
Neither side were settling for a point with Bell blocking Phillips goal bound strike to deny Felixstowe's leading scorer and Francis went close for Wanderers in the closing stages as both teams went in search of the win.

In the end a draw was a fair result.

Wanderers remain 9th in the table, on goal difference from Woodbridge, and four places above Felixstowe who maintain 13th position.

Saturday 7th April 2007 - Ridgeons League Premier Division
Lowestoft Town  3 - 0 Felixstowe & Walton United  (1-0)
Felixstowe: Paul Cudworth, Lewis Pemberton, Terry Layton (Ben Wyard 80), Gavin Frost, Stuart Simmons, James Peachey, Matt Morgan,  James Buckle (Matt Stanbridge 78), Danny Phillips ( James Heathcote 84), Dwayne Edwards, Shaun Pugh.
Two goals in two minutes from Smith and Hough, twenty minutes from time, saw the Trawler boys net all three points at Crown Meadow this afternoon.
McGee fired the home side ahead after ten minutes with the Seasiders gradually gaining their fair share of possession and enjoying good attacking spells in each half without unduly troubling Reynolds in the Lowestoft goal.
 

Injuries and late call-offs required Manager Steve Potts to shuffle the available pack with Simmons, Morgan and Pugh replacing Frost, Scopes and Janacek from last week's line up.

The Seasiders were visiting Crown Meadow for the first time in five years, a 3-2 win for the Seasiders on 6th April 2002 (Nicky Barker 2 and Rick Deasy the scorers).
The welcome and hospitality at Lowestoft has always been first class and it was no different today - many thanks for the warm welcome.

Paul Cudworth pulled on the Captains arm band, in the absence of Alan Mills,  and after winning the toss elected to have the wind behind him in the first half. Cudworth produced a Captains performance making his first save after nine minutes to block Stock pictured above at close range but could do little to prevent Gary McGee rifling home the opener after ten minutes as he ran onto a deep pass - pictured.  Cudworth saved from McGee before the same player struck the Felixstowe bar as the visitors were in danger of conceding again, before gradually gaining a foothold on the game.

Felixstowe enjoyed a good attacking spell towards the end of the half with Buckle's shot deflected for a corner and Frost blasting wide when well placed in front of goal. Cudworth saved from Hunn as both sides looked a goal before the interval and Frost's free kick was deflected for a corner as the half came to a close.

The Seasiders continued to enjoy good possession in the middle of the park with Pugh impressing down the wing but the Lowestoft defence dealt quickly with any sign of danger in front of goal. Cudworth produced an excellent double save to deny Godbold and then Stock before Ian Smith pictured doubled Lowestoft's lead with a well struck shot from the edge of the area after combining with Stock on 70 minutes.
Two minutes later the points were safe for the home side when a poor clearance fell to the busy Bradley Hough on the edge of the Felixstowe who made no mistake to fire home the third.

All three Felixstowe substitutes were introduced for the last ten minutes (including Matt Stanbridge (pictured right) pulling on a first team shirt for the first time since playing in the Jewson Premier League at Warboys on Tuesday 18th April 2000).

An emphatic performance from league leaders Wroxham as they hit the Seasiders for six at Dellwood Avenue this afternoon.

A sunny afternoon with a coastal breeze (read gale if you live inland) welcomed the league leaders to Felixstowe for the first meeting of the Clubs this season, the Seasiders have the pleasure of a trip to Trafford Park in two week time.

Howes cleared off the line, what proved to be Felixstowe's best attempt on goal, after only three minutes, as Phillips rounded the visiting keeper but saw his shot blocked.  From that moment the Yachtsmen took control with Thompson (no. 9 pictured above) heading home from Lemmon's corner after 21 minutes and Gilmore firing home a left foot shot on the stroke of half time.

Resolute defending from the home team and three excellent saves from Cudworth, two from Thompson and one from Howes pictured right , kept the game alive at the break but it looked an uphill struggle following the second goal just before the whistle.

It was one way traffic after the break with Cook making it three ten minutes into the half with an excellent turn and shot in the area. Keeper Woodcock strode forward to score the fourth from the penalty spot after Gilmore had been brought down on the hour.

Key hammered home the fifth from a 20 yard free kick before Cook headed home his second from Howlett's corner fifteen minutes from time.
Woodcock pictured  denied Phillips following a rare Felixstowe attack, bravely punching the ball clear on the edge of his area, and Janacek fired into the side netting as Felixstowe searched in vain for a late consolation.

Newmarket Town  1 - 2  Felixstowe & Walton United  (0-1)
Felixstowe: Danny Crump, Terry Layton, Lewis Pemberton, Gavin Frost, Alan Mills, James Peachey, Petr Janacek,   James Buckle, Danny Phillips, Liam Scopes, Danny Spurling (Darcy Death).
Making his first team debut in the Felixstowe goal Danny Crump produced a confident performance and two fine saves to block Pettitt's shot in the first half and acrobatically denying Blaney in the second period.
Danny Phillips following up from Frost's free kick put the Seasiders ahead after ten minutes and a good spell of pressure would have produced a greater return but for saves from Young in the in the home. Newmarket enjoyed good possession towards the end of the half but failed to find the target.
Frost clattered the Jockey's cross bar on the hour with Pettitt creating a good opening for Newmarket before putting the ball into the side netting. Ten minutes from time Petr Janacek scored his first goal for the 1st team with a well a struck shot from a difficult angle.
Ben Mhishi pulled a goal back three minutes from time but Felixstowe held on for a win their overall play deserved.
 

Saturday 24th March 2007 - Ridgeons League Premier Division
Wisbech Town  3 - 1  Felixstowe & Walton United  (0-0)
Felixstowe: Paul Cudworth, Terry Layton, Lewis Pemberton, Gavin Frost, Alan Mills, James Peachey, Petr Janacek,   Stuart Simmons (Darcy Death), Danny Phillips, Dwayne Edwards, Danny Spurling (James Heathcote).
Excellent saves from keepers Cudworth and Conroy kept the game goal-less at the interval on a wet and windy afternoon at Fenland Park.
Kennedy broke the deadlock from the penalty spot on the hour after a foul on Pritchard, but the Fenmen were ahead for only four minutes before Spurling was brought down by the Wisbech keeper and Phillips stepped up to slot home from the spot.
Ten minutes from time Wisbech broke from defence through Pritchard with his cross met by Kennedy to score his second. Conroy saved from Edwards as the Seasiders pressed for an equaliser before Harper secured the points for Wisbech deep into injury time with a well struck shot from the edge of the area.

It was 11th versus 12th in the table at Fenland Park this afternoon with just two points separating the sides at the start of play. Goal-less at half time but far from being a mid-table bore draw with plenty to entertain the crowd on a cold and windy afternoon with both keepers excelling themselves.
Cudworth made an outstanding save after only three minutes to keep out Ward as he met Lodge's cross from the left, and as Wisbech made the early running Ward and Pritchard both fired wide with shots from the edge of the area.

Gradually Felixstowe gained momentum with McNeil in quickly to block Sprurling and Conroy holding the ball well under pressure from Phillips. Conroy save well to deny Spurling at the expense of a corner and the Wisbech keeper was well behind two shots from Layton as the Seasiders enjoyed a good attacking spell.
Cudworth produced another first class save to foil Lodge following a free kick on the edge of the Felixstowe area before Jimson spurned the best chance of the half shooting wide from close range.

The wind continued to strengthen and Cudworth was forced to palm over the bar Lodge's long ball from the half way line shortly after the restart. On the hour Pritchard went down following a tackle by Layton with Luke Kennedy stepping up to slot home the opening goal for Wisbech.
Looking aggrieved at the decision Felixstowe pressed forward with determination and were awarded a penalty after Spurling weaved his way into the area and having gone round the Wisbech keeper was brought down, Danny Phillips driving home from the spot.

With ten minutes remaining Pritchard sprung defence into attack with his cross from the right well met by Luke Kennedy to score his and Wisbech's second. Conroy palmed away Edward's goal bound shot and Janacek fired over as Felixstowe looked to salvage a point but substitute Dave Harper confirmed the points for the Fenmen with a well struck shot from the edge of the area deep into injury time.

An entertaining and competitive game of football with the Seasiders looking to build on this performance at Newmarket on Tuesday.

Saturday 17th March 2007 - Ridgeons League Premier Division
Histon Reserves  2 - 3  Felixstowe & Walton United  (1-1)
Felixstowe: Paul Cudworth, Terry Layton, Gary Henderson, Gavin Frost, James Peachey, Alan Mills, Petr Janacek,   Liam Scopes, Danny Phillips, Dwayne Edwards, Danny Spurling.
Unused Subs:  James Buckle, James Heathcote, Darcy Death.
The Seasiders claimed all three points thanks to Danny Phillips' second goal six minutes from time as the game looked to be heading for a draw. Dwayne Edwards opened the scoring after 23 minutes with a good shot under Davies in the Histon goal before Benny Murray brought the sides level ten minutes before the interval.
Danny Phillips pounced on a defensive error eight minutes after the restart to put the Sesiders back in front but back came the young Histon side and deservedly drew level thanks to a well struck shot from Jack Watson.
Histon looked to have done enough to earn a point but you can't give the league's leading scorer half a chance with Phillips first to a long through ball outside the area to steer the winner over the advanced Davies.

It was August 1999 when we last visited The Glassworld Stadium for the first match of what was to be Histon's (1st Team) last season in the Eastern Counties League. A lot has happened since that day as they now stand on the verge of promotion to the the Conference, and we wish them all the best for promotion.
What had not changed was the warm welcome and hospitality for a our visit last Saturday to play Histon's Reserve side.  A young side with the experienced Murray in attack and Mintus in defence were looking for their first point since Christmas, but despite recent results look comfortably away from the danger zone.

A sunny afternoon and a good surface but neither side were able to control the ball for any length of time. Flack had the first meaningful shot on target on the quarter hour for the home side but his effort was blocked before Flack again brought a save from Cudworth as the game began to warm up. Spurling created the opening goal threading the ball through the home defence for Dwayne Edwards to run on and score, pictured left.

Neither defence looked comfortable under any form of pressure and Benny Murray's efforts were rewarded on 35 minutes when he was first to a poor pass on the edge of the Felixstowe area to claim the equaliser.

Histon keeper Davies saved from Spurling shortly after the interval and the persistence of Danny Phillips paid off when the ball ran loose in front of the Histon goal and he pounced to score, pictured right.
Felixstowe looked as if they may push on from that point but it was Histon who looked the more inventive and with 20 minutes remaining substitute Stewart produced a telling cross from the right and from the left had side of the area Jack Watson rifled the ball home.

With time running down and honours about even a long ball found Danny Phillips in space 20 yards from goal and the Felixstowe number 9 steered the ball over the advancing Davies before a defender could produce a challenge.
 

Saturday 10th March 2007 - Ridgeons League Premier Division
Felixstowe & Walton United  0 - 4  Kirkley (0-2)

Felixstowe: Paul Cudworth, Terry Layton, Jimmy Andrews, Gavin Frost, Stuart Simmons (Dwayne Edwards 40), Alan Mills, Danny Spencer (James Heathcote 74), James Buckle, Danny Phillips, Darcy Death (Matt Morgan 82), James Peachey.

The Seasiders never recovered after conceding a goal with just over two minutes on the clock and ended well beaten by the visitors.
A floated free kick into the area saw Carl Chennery head beyond Paul Cudworth as he rose unchallenged to make the early breakthrough and from that point Kirkley never looked likely to concede. It might well have been two inside 12 minutes when Justin Chennery spotted Cudworth off his line and from just inside the Seasiders half quickly hit a 50 yard free kick that sailed over the Felixstowe keeper and bounced to safety off the top of the bar.

The half was marred by prolonged stoppages, firstly for a serious head wound to young Kirkley debutant Ian Dawson that saw him replaced after 19 minutes and then Seasiders defender Stuart Simmons who failed to recover from an early knock being replaced by Dwayne Edwards.

Danny Stokeld gave his side a cushion at the break when he rose with Cudworth and won a crucial header to plant the ball in the net in the 37th minute and Felixstowe could have little to complain about at the break.
 

The second half continued in much the same vein as the first, Felixstowe & Walton looking disjointed with Kirkley making the most of the time and space they were allowed, Danny Phillips

got in the only serious shot on target in 90 minutes from the home side but drove his 20 yard effort straight at Attridge in the 66th minute.

Substitute Nathan Stone ended the best move of the match in the 73rd min with a fine volley to make it three for Kirkley and fellow substitute Ben Goddard ended a similar move in the 78th minute with an equally comprehensive finish.

Despite being well under strength the Seasiders management will have been disappointed with the effort and application from their side this afternoon.

Tuesday 6th March 2007 - Ridgeons League Premier Division
Mildenhall Town  4 - 1  Felixstowe & Walton United  (3-1)
Felixstowe: Paul Cudworth, Terry Layton (James Heathcote), James Peachey, Gavin Frost, Stuart Simmons, Alan Mills, Petr Janacek, Liam Scopes, Danny Phillips, James Buckle (Matt Morgan), Danny Spurling (Gary Henderson).
The league leaders showed why they top the table controlling the game from beginning to end with movement and pace throughout the whole team. The Seasiders put in a solid performance defending in depth with Cudworth making a number of fine saves to keep the visitors in the game, but were undeniably second on the night.
Felixstowe kept Mildenhall at arms length for half an hour until Craig Hammond, an early replacement for the injured Harrold, fired home from 12 yards after Miles had made the goal with a strong run through the centre of the Felixstowe defence. Three minutes later Hammond doubled his tally with a fine headed goal from Wilson's cross and only an Assistant's flag for an earlier off-side denied Hammond his hat-trick. 
Gareth Simpson made it three from ten yards to complete a flowing move from the home side before Danny Phillips pulled a goal back from the penalty spot on the stroke of half time to give the Seasiders hope at the break.
Mildenhall remained in charge during the second period with Nower in the home goal seeing little of the ball in contrast to Cudworth who produced two outstanding saves to deny Foster and Wilson. Ozig Foster completed the scoring with fifteen minutes to complete another excelent move from the home side and confirming the three points to maintain the lead at the top of the table.

A very positive performance from the Seasiders against fourth placed Leiston, with the home side coming from behind to deservedly claim the points from a well contested game.
Danny Phillips opened the scoring for the visitors with a marvellous strike after 18 minutes as the Seasiders enjoyed the better of the opening period.
Leiston gradually gained momentum and it was no surprise when they drew level through Lee McGlone four minutes before the break.
Both sides created opportunities in the second period but it was a double substitution midway through the half that proved decisive with Stewart Roach linking well with George and Hammond for Leiston to take the lead.
Moyes produced saves to deny Spurling, Phillips and Simmons before Chris Dennett confirmed the win in the 90th minute completing a good run with a well taken goal.

Frost returned with Buckle taking his turn to miss with a one match ban and Peachey started after injury replacing injury sidelined with a thigh strain. 

In glorious sunshine the game started at a quick tempo with Frost getting the first shot away after good build up from the visitors. The lively Phillips and Spurling combined to earn a corner as Felixstowe impressed in the early stages. Spurling saw his shot on the turn blocked and Peachey curled a free kick just wide before the influential Saker produced Leiston's first clear effort with his shot blocked after 15 minutes.

There looked little immediate danger as Danny Phillips advanced down the right on 20 minutes but he unleashed an unstoppable shot to record his 28th goal of the season.

Dennett went close to equalising  almost immediately with a shot just wide of the post and Scopes winning plenty of ball in mid-field fired over from distance as both sides went for goal. Stanley's shot was blocked as Leiston increased the pressure and deservedly drew level after Nash's cross ran through to Lee McGlone who controlled the ball well and picked his spot to blast home the equaliser four minutes before the interval.

In an open second half Leiston enjoyed the greater possession but Felixstowe always looked dangerous going forward with Moyes having to react quickly to deny Phillips on the hour.
The introduction of Hammond, Roach and George from the bench increased the threat on the Felixstowe goal with Cudworth forced to make saves from George and Roach in quick succession before the lead came for the home side after 77 minutes.  George made ground down the right combining with  Hammond before Stewart Roach drilled home to claim the lead.
Moyes was called into action to make saves from Spurling, Simmons and Philips as Felixstowe pressed forward earning a number of corners.

Chris Dennett confirmed the win Leiston's overall play deserved with a confident run and shot down the left on ninety minutes. The Seasiders contributed fully to an entertaining game producing a good performance against one of the best sides in the league.

Four goals from Danny Phillips as Felixstowe's leading goal scorer recorded his sixth hat-trick of the season and the Seasider's third consecutive win.
On a tricky surface Phillips opened the scoring after twenty minutes following a quickly taken Buckle free kick. Hyem deservedly brought the sides level five minutes before the break with a well struck shot from the edge of the area as CRC enjoyed a good period of possession.
Phillips scored his second from the penalty spot five minutes into the second half after Spurling had been tripped with Scopes making it three seven minutes later from 35 yards. Phillips completed his hat-trick mid-way through the half with a break away goal as CRC pressed forward for a reply. The visitors neat football and build up play was rewarded when they scored their second when Cutler seized on a poor back pass to reduce the deficit. Phillips completed the scoring in injury time firing home from close range from Edward's cross.

James Buckle came in for the suspended Frost as the only change to the Felixstowe starting line up for the visit of CRC this afternoon.
The lights were on from the start as the game began in heavy rain but thankfully, despite the pitch getting heavy, the rain relented sufficiently for the game to proceed. Both sides looked to play football to feet with Beagle in the CRC goal well behind a Pemberton drive in the opening minutes.
Wilmott impressed throughout for the visitors and went close with a shot following a neat turn as both sides created openings. Danny Phillips opened the scoring on 20 minutes following a quickly taken free kick by Buckle, Beagle was quickly off his line but Phillips fired home from an acute angle,
Cudworth saved well at the expense of a corner from Colson  and Mills headed away from under his own bar to deny Harber as CRC enjoyed a very positive spell of possession.
Colson looked to have equalised on 35 minutes as he fired the ball into the net but the Assistant's flag ruled it out for a push. The deserved equaliser was not long in coming however with Mike Hyem completing a good move for CRC with a shot from the edge of the area five minutes before the interval.

Felixstowe enjoyed the better of the second half and were quickly ahead as Danny Phillips fired home from the penalty spot after Spurling had been tripped in the area. Liam Scopes extended the lead just before the hour mark with a powerful drive from 35 yards to give a two goal cushion. Wilmott rattled the Felixstowe cross bar as CRC continued to play positively with good spells of pressure without the telling final product.
A solo run and shot from Danny Phillips completed his hat-trick before Beagle produced a point blank save to deny the Felixstowe striker his fourth moments later pictured left.
Sam Butler pulled a goal back for the hard working CRC side after a back pass held up in the mud and Butler was fast to react.
Danny Phillips scored his fourth in injury time thanks to good build up play and an unselfish pass from Edwards.

With five wins from the last seven games the Seasiders are now mid-table and look forward to the trip to Leiston next Saturday.

Once again, no shortage of action at a Felixstowe away game with six goals nine bookings a sending off, plus more talking points than you can shake a stick at.
Credit goes to the Clacton ground staff who worked tirelessly all day to ensure the fixture went ahead at the third time of asking.
The visitors named an unchanged team and with the sides just two points apart and looking to move away from the bottom places this was always going to be a competitive encounter.
Clacton started brightly before a defensive lapse enabled Phillips to open the scoring for Felixstowe after ten minutes despite Mack's best efforts on the goal line to keep the ball out.
Dunkley equalised five minutes later after several shots had been blocked by a determined Felixstowe defence. Five minutes before the break Jancek's shot was handled in the area, with Phillips stepping up to slot home from the spot.
Just before the hour Scopes' persistence was rewarded when his shot from an acute angle was deflected home for Felixstowe's third. Hillier hit the side netting as Clacton continued to press before Scopes' headed home the best goal of the night from Phillips' cross. Dunkley's dismissal for a second yellow ended Clacton's resistance and Phillips completed his hat-trick with a low shot from the edge of the area to round off a good evening for the Suffolk Seasiders.
Tonight's result moves Felixstowe up the table to 13th.

After conceding a total of twelve goals in the last two away games it was important for the Seasiders to tighten up at the back, which they duly did to record their third consecutive home win without conceding a goal.
Liam Scopes set them on their way, with his first goal for the club, driving home a low shot from the edge of the area after 16 minutes.  Amass skimmed the Felixstowe cross bar with Stanway's best effort just before the break but Felixstowe were good value for their half time lead.
Cudworth needed to be quickly off his line to deny North and Emmerson went close with a long range free kick but Stanway failed to pose any real threat to the home goal.
Ten minutes from time Danny Phillips confirmed the win from the penalty spot slotting home his 20th goal of the season after Spurling had been bundled over in the area.
A much needed confidence boosting win for Felixstowe after the disappointment of the last two games, and a win that also took them above their visitors and Tuesday's hosts Clacton Town in the table.

Felixstowe welcomed the return of Stuart Simmons to the centre of defence for an important game against Stanway Rovers, with both Clubs showing indifferent form of late and looking over their shoulders at the relegation places.

In bright sunshine both teams worked hard for possession and Pemberton produced the first shot on goal firing wide from distance after six minutes. As always Spurling covered every blade of grass with his pass to Phillips creating an excellent opening but with Felixstowe's leading scorer stretching the ball flew over the bar.
Cudworth was well behind Callandar's shot on 16 minutes, before springing defence into attack and with Edward's initial shot blocked Liam Scopes pictured left was on hand to drill home the opener from the edge of the area.

North for Stanway and Phillips for Felixstowe both worked hard with the deliveries received in attack but the final ball from both sides failed to cause either defence concern.

Colclough was quickly down to hold Scopes' long range shot with Cudworth pleased to see Amass' shot shave the top of the cross bar as half time approached with Felixstowe holding a narrow advantage.

Saunders fired wide from distance and Emmerson went close with a free kick as Stanway went in search of a reply with Cudworth tested by North but the Felixstowe keeper was quickly off his line to preserve his clean sheet.

When the tireless Spurling was bundled over in the area ten minutes from time Danny Phillips made the game safe scoring his 20th goal of the season with a well taken strike from the penalty spot pictured left.

Turner went close in the final stages but the Seasiders comfortably saw out time to claim three valuable points.

Tuesday 13th February 2007 - Ridgeons League Premier Division

Producing their best result of the season so far Halstead, bottom of the table before the game, moved out of relegation places with a comfortable win against the Seasiders.
Halstead starting on the offensive were ahead after only three minutes with Cooper scoring from close range after his first shot was blocked by Cudworth. Rutherford in the home goal produced an excellent save, diving to his left to keep out Frost's free kick, on ten minutes with Philips putting the rebound into the side netting as Felixstowe enjoyed their best spell of the game.
The busy Spurling was rewarded with the equaliser, stroking the ball home from 12 yards following a flowing move from Layton and Pemberton on 20 minutes.
Any hopes that the Seasiders would press on from this point were dashed when Norfolk's pass to Ricks split the Felixstowe defence on 35 minutes, Harper crossed to Cranfield at the far post and his downward header was met by Cooper to score his and Halstead's second.
The lead was decisively extended before the break when a woefully mis-directed defensive header was seized by Ricks who ran on to score unchallenged.
Felixstowe, with very little pattern to their play, showed more determination after the break but despite a number of long range shots failed to test Rutherford in the home goal.
With ten minutes remaining Felixstowe were reduced to ten with Pemberton dismissed after raising an arm following a challenge. In time added on Cooper completed his hat-trick from the penalty spot to end a miserable evening for Felixstowe in the driving rain.

Twelve goals, 7 bookings and the prospect of an impossible come back kept the crowd entertained but will give the managers night mares as both sets of defences went into stealth mode and disappeared from view for large periods of the game.
Howell's goal put the home side on the front foot after only 46 seconds and they continued to dominate with a brace from Blyth giving the home side a comfortable advantage at the interval.
Within ten minutes of the restart Dereham had doubled their lead with Beamont, Wright and Sam Willis scoring almost unchallenged.
Felixstowe looked woeful, but it was now the turn of the home defence to go walk-about with a Phillips' hat-trick and a strike from Edwards spearheading an unlikely fight back as Felixstowe scored four goals in 20 minutes.
Frost's shot was blocked on the line as an 'I was there' moment looked possible. Hopes of a most unlikely turn of fortune were finally dashed as Blyth completed his hat-trick from the penalty spot and Sam Willis scored his second with the best strike of the game to complete the rout.

Steve Potts named an unchanged team for the trip to Aldiss Park in search of repeat performance of last Saturday's win against Soham Town Rangers. Although heavy on top the pitch was in good condition given the rain and snow during the week.

Dereham kicked off with two players standing wide on the left and while the Seasiders were still wondering why, the play had been switched tothe right and Micky Howell took full advantage of the time and space available to run on and fire home the opener after only 46 seconds.

Pauling in the home goal did well to block Phillips shot as Felixstowe looked for a quick reply but Dereham maintained a high defensive line with the Felixstowe forwards often thwarted by the off side trap.
The home side were quick to close down the visiting players and the pressure told again on 26 minutes when Mills' back pass put Cudworth in trouble and Jordan Blyth pounced to score from close range. Eight minutes later Blyth netted his second pictured with a near post header from Beaumont's corner to give the home a comfortable 3-0 half-time lead.
 

Felixstowe pushed forward from the re-start with Edwards making good ground down the right but delivering a cross when well placed to shoot. Olly Willis sprung defence into attack finding Danny Beaumont with an accurate cross field pass to produce a curling shot past the diving Cudworth.  Cudworth produced an excellent save to tip Blyth's shot over the bar before Danny Wright was allowed to waltz through the Seasiders defence to score the fifth.
The Felixstowe defence was now in tatters and when Sam Willis scored from Wright's cross to make it six there was still 35 minutes to go to the final whistle.

With Dereham appearing to declare innings closed Felixstowe went onto the offensive, Danny Phillips breaking through a static defence to reduce the deficit. This looked a token gesture until the goals kept coming. Edwards ran on unchallenged to fire home the second, Phillips after perseverance from Buckle steered home the third and Phillips completed his hat-trick following a strong run from Spurling, who had certainly helped turn the tide since joining the game on 53 minutes.
With apprehension evident in the home ranks Felixstowe poured forward with Frost's shot blocked at the expense of a corner and many wondered if history was about to be written.
It was not to be, and in time added on Andrews brought down Blyth in the area, with the Dereham number nine rising to his feet to hammer home the resultant penalty and complete his hat-trick.
There was just time for Sam Willis to complete the scoring with an excellent curling shot from the edge of the area.

A single goal from Dwayne Edwards, scored two minutes into the second half, was all that separated the sides at the end of an entertaining game that flowed from end to throughout.
Paul Cudworth in the Felixstowe goal made three first class saves to deny Libam, Furnell and Robinson as Soham created the clearer opportunities in the first 45 minutes.
After the break Phillips stepped up a gear and it was his determination that provided Edwards with a tap in from close range  picture above.

An offside flag denied Libam on the hour, after appearing to score with a header, enabling Felixstowe to collect three important points.

Congratulation to Stuart Simmons and his wife Dawn on the birth of their son Matthew James yesterday 2nd February - love and best wished from everyone at the club.

The Seasiders welcomed back Peachey right and Pemberton from injury with Andrews stepping in for Simmons.

It was 4th verses 17th at start of play with the visitors enjoying a good season but without a win from three games in January.

A sunny afternoon on a good surface saw both teams look to attack from the off with both winning a succession of corners. Cudworth was out quickly to deny the dangerous Libam picture left in the 11th minute when he had just the keeper to beat. Scopes and Janacek provided plenty of possession to the Felixstowe forwards, Phillips and Edwards, who threatened but it was Soham who created the clearer chances with once again Cudworth to the rescue to block Furnell's passage to goal on the half hour picture right.

Shaun Greygoose in the Soham goal was down sharply to smother Janacek's low drive with Johnson on hand to clear Edward's shot off the line. Cudworth kept the scoreline blank at the interval with a finger tip save to keep out Robinson's dipping volley at the expense of a corner deep into time added on at the end of the half.

Felixstowe increased the tempo after the break with Phillips completing a good run down the right with a square pass to Dwayne Edwards who had made good ground to tap home the goal.

Soham pressed for an equaliser with Libam impressing, heading over from Robinson's corner and seeing a shot deflected for a corner following good build up play from Bell.

On the hour Libam looked to have pulled the sides level, but the flag was up for offside, much to the relief of the home support.

Greygoose produce a splendid save from Edwards getting strong hands to powerful drive and diverting for a corner as Felixstowe searched for a second to make the game safe.

Turner placed his shot wide when well placed but under pressure from the advancing Cudworth and the final chance had gone.

An entertaining game with numerous chances and an excellent result for the Seasiders.

Showing determination and spirit the Seasiders returned from The Walks with three well earned points to end the year on a high. Danny Phillips topped the bill scoring a hat-trick with Martin Rudd, the Linnet's hat-trick hero, responding each time to equalise and bring the sides level on three occasions. With the rain driving down Danny Spencer came off the bench to score the all important winner in a rain soaked goalmouth thirteen minutes from time.

A moral boosting win was required from the the last match of the year and was duly obtained after Steve Potts shuffled the pack slightly. Owen Symonds and Alan Mills, the latter wearing the Captains arm band with pride, paired in the middle of the back four with Danny Spurling continuing his recovery from injury with his first start of the season.

The game started at a high tempo which was maintained throughout by two teams looking to play the ball to feet. Both forced early corners with Henderson active at both ends of the park, heading over from Scopes' corner and producing a timely tackle to deny the dangerous Spriggs.
Cutting in from the right Danny Phillips opened the scoring on 8 minutes as his speed took him past two defenders to volley home.
Edwards and Spurling kept the home defence busy with Heath-Preston and Spriggs at the centre of the home sides numerous attacks. With the rain returning Cudworth produced two world class saves to deny Heath-Preston and then Fell before the equaliser eventually came on 21 minutes.
Heat-Preston's shot from Spriggs' cross was once again saved by Cudworth but when the ball ran loose Martin Rudd kept his composure to shoot low through a crowded goalmouth.
Danny Phillips regained the lead to take the Seasiders ahead at the break with a low strike from the edge of the area just before the half hour and with the game flowing from end to end and both sides committed to attack more goals were sure follow.

Cudworth saved twice from Spriggs at the start of the second half before Martin Rudd headed home from Fells' corner on 53 minutes. With heavy rain now falling Danny Phillips pictured left completed his hat-trick following a direct run down the right wing. Back came Kings Lynn and after Cudworth saved from Buhlemann Martin Rudd stabbed home the resultant corner to record his hat-trick and set up an exciting last twenty minutes.
Showing great stamina and commitment both sides went for the win with Danny Spencer getting the all important touch to a ball held up by the rain in the home goalmouth with ten minutes remaining.
An exciting game which was a credit to both sides and well Refereed by Mr O'Sullivan who took full account of the conditions and both sides determination to play football.

The Seasiders failed to take a grip on the game early on and the home side took full advantage of some wayward defending with Rick Martin planting a firm header from Farrington's cross firmly past Paul Cudworth with just 4 minutes on the clock.
Edwards missed the chance to level the score before three goals in ten minutes put the result beyond doubt. Swann ran through the Seasiders defence to finish well in the 12th minute  and Turney- Godfrey made it 3-0 after 17 minutes with the Seasiders defence being pulled apart and in the 22nd minute Swann fired home from the angle of the area to make it four.

The second half saw the Seasiders looking much better organised to stem the flow of attacks and giving the dangerous Swann and Tourney-Godfrey much closer attention to deny them the openings. Alan Mills reduced the deficit, firing home in a packed goalmouth in the 56th min but Jones quickly restored the advantage with a looping volley a minute later.

Two first half goals from former Seasider Glen Snell pictured left set the visitors on their way to repeating the score-line of less than two weeks ago when the sides met at Dellwood Avenue in the league Cup.
Jon Thorogood's deflected shot six minutes into the second half confirmed the win with Liam Jones producing two excellent saves to deny the Seasiders a consolation goal.

Manager Steve Potts named just one change to the side that won at the Royal Oak the previous Saturday with Stuart Simmons returning to the back four. Alan Mills and Terry Lawler made their home debuts as Dellwood Avenue welcomed Needham Market for the second time in less than two weeks, the previous occasion seeing the visitors victorious 3-0 in the league Cup.

Needham played at a  high tempo throughout and limiting the time on the ball for the Seasiders.
The influential Snell posted his intentions early producing a good save from Cudworth as early as the second minute with Simmonds clearing the danger at the expense of a corner.
Frost was narrowly wide of the Needham goal with a long range effort before Glenn Snell, looking suspiciously off-side, ran on to cleverly lift the ball over the diving Cudworth to open the scoring on nine minutes.

Edwards and Phillips combined well with Edward shooting wide and Scopes, Buckle and Phillips all went close with shots from distance without troubling Jones in the Needham goal. Two minutes before the break the visitors were awarded a free kick on the edge of the Felixstowe area with Glenn Snell curling his shot  over the wall and past the left hand of the diving Cudworth.

The second half started as the first with Needham on the attack with Snell's shot beating Cudworth and striking a post before Simmons cleared at the expense of a corner. The points were on their way West along the A14 six minutes into the half when Jon Thorogood's well taken shot from the edge of the area was deflected past Cudworth for the visitors third.

Felixstowe pressed for a reply with Jones clinging on to Frost's shot just under his cross bar and Jones made a flying save to his right to keep out Edward's strike. Frost aimed his header from Edward's cross straight at Jones as the home side enjoyed a good spell midway through the half but the Needham back line rarely looked troubled.
 Cudworth producing a good save to deny Thrower as the clock ran down and Needham deservedly recorded their third win over the Seasiders this season and comfortably maintained second spot in the League table.

The Shrimpers held the advantage on possession but clinical finishing from Phillips and Edwards combined with two excellent saves by Cudworth earned the Seasiders  all three points at the Royal Oak.  Former old boys Alan Mills and Terry Layton were in the starting eleven after end of week transfers from Ipswich Wanderers with the Felixstowe side producing a solid defensive display and always looked dangerous on the break.
Edwards volleyed home from Frost's cross ten minutes into the second half after Phillips had opened the scoring twelve minutes into the game. Stace pulled a goal back from the edge of the area to set up an anxious last 25 minutes for the Seasiders, but the defence held firm to claim an important three points.

 Needham Market will travel to Ipswich Wanderers in the quarter finals of the League Cup having booked their place with an excellent first half performance at Dellwood Avenue. 
Goals from Lee Sim and Ben Deacon saw the visitors comfortably in control at the interval with Felixstowe's best attempt on goal from Pemberton tipped over the bar by Jones in the Needham goal.
Despite the Seasiders positive second half performance they could not find the telling touch and Jon Thorogood confirmed the win ten minutes from time.

Liam Scopes made his debut for the Seasiders following his recent transfer from Kirkley and Dwayne Edwards returned from injury as Needham Market made the first of two visits in less than two weeks to Dellwood Avenue.

Needham maintained a high tempo during the first half with Snell and Jones both going close as a result of early pressure. Butler was on hand to clear the danger after Edwards had slipped past the Needham Keeper Jones before Needham took the lead on 25 minutes.
Lee Sim started the move with a pass to Snell out on the right flank, his cross was headed against the bar by Thorogood with the ball rebounding to Sim who was following up to fire home the opening goal.

Banham cleared Edward's dangerous cross and Pemberton's dipping cross was saved by Jones at full stretch, both at the expense of a corner as Felixstowe looked for a quick reply but Needham extended their lead on 36 minutes. Jones' corner was allowed to run past several defenders for Ben Deacon to turn the ball home at the far post.

Felixstowe upped their game in the second half increasing the pressure on the visiting defence. Scopes produced two shots that were comfortably saved by Jones and Edwards went close before Jon Thorogood put the result beyond doubt with a low shot to Cudworth's right ten minutes from time.

We wish Needham Market well in the next round when they travel to Ipswich Wanderers.

The Seasiders slipped closer to the relegation zone following today's defeat at home to Wisbech, who were welcomed to Dellwood Avenue for the first time in 10 years.
Both sides will produce better performances with Wisbech the better of the two teams on the day. 
All the goals came in the first quarter of the game Martin McNeil heading home for the visitors on 16 minutes and Danny Spencer replying less than a minute later. With Cudworth prostrate on the floor, following a goal-line challenge, Darren Jimson hammered home what proved to be the winner on 21 minutes.
Danny Phillips came close to equalising six minutes from time but his well struck shot cannoned off the Wisbech cross-bar.

Gary Henderson returned from injury, and with Lewis Pemberton suspended the Seasiders named five changes to the starting eleven.
Both defences showed nerves from the off with Harrold placing his shot wide of an open Felixstowe goal after only 26 seconds and Spencer saw his shot blocked by Deer as the Wisbech goal was exposed less than two minutes later.
Harrold Shot wide from distance with McNeil stinging Cudworth's fingers with a rasping shot as Wisbech settled and on 16 minutes they were ahead, the impressive Lodge accurately placing a free kick onto the head of Martin McNeil to head home unchallenged from six yards.
Within a minute it was all square after Danny Spencer pictured right carved through the centre of the visiting defence to place his low shot into the corner of the net past the unsighted Conroy.
Wisbech regained the lead on 21 minutes following a corner which saw Felixstowe's keeper Cudworth injured on the ground, but the play continued and Nimmo passed to Darren Jimson who fired the ball into the unguarded net.

Felixstowe showed plenty of effort but little application in the second half and Jimson should have put the game beyond the home sides reach on the hour but spurned the chance from Nimmo's cross.
Cudworth was at full stretch to save from Lodge's cross before Spencer saw his shot turned away for a corner as Felixstowe stepped up a gear in search of the equaliser.  Glencastle's shot from distance was well held by Conroy in the visitors goal and Phillips' drive cannoned off the Wisbech cross bar with six minutes remaining.
But it was to be Wisbech's day as they finished strongly with Jimson producing an excellent save from Cudworth moments before the final whistle.

A comprehensive victory for Leiston at Dellwood Avenue this afternoon scoring six times without reply.
Two goals from Liam Manning inside twenty minutes put the visitors comfortably in the driving seat with Moyes' saving from Spencer to ensure the lead was maintained to the interval.
On the hour the result was beyond doubt when Stuart Roach claimed the final touch to Dennett's in-swinging cross to score the third.
Blair Hammond fired home the fourth before Stuart Roach headed the fifth from McLone's long throw.
Felixstowe were denied a consolation as Ryland cleared Edward's header off the line and Danny Stanley completed the rout blasting home the sixth five minutes from time.

James Buckle returned after a one match ban with Danny Spencer making way and starting on the bench as the Seasiders posted just one change to the side that defeated Newmarket last Saturday.

The first attack came from Felixstowe but Leiston soon got their passing game together and went on to control the first half with speed and movement both on and off the ball.
Cudworth saved well after only three minutes to block McGlone's shot following good build up play with Manning and Hammond stooped to head just wide as the visitors threatened.
The Seasiders won the first corner of the game on 11 minutes when Phillips' dangerous shot was cleared by Sparkes but the resulting flag kick was cleared comfortably.
Liam Manning opened the scoring on 14 minutes. After his initial shot had been blocked the ball rebounded back to him in the air and he instinctively headed back across goal past Cudworth in the home goal who could only watch the ball sail into the top corner of the goal pictured left.

Buckle went close for the Seasiders with his shot from distance narrowly missing the angle of bar and post pictured right  but Felixstowe's attacks were few and far between and it was no surprise when the visitors extended their lead on 19 minutes with Liam Hammond scoring his second from a well worked free kick on the edge of the area.

Leiston were producing all the football with Felixstowe by-passing the midfield in search of wide runners Edwards and Spencer, on for the injured Frost, but receiving little support. Spencer turned well in the area and produced a save from Moyes as half time approached with Leiston good value for their interval lead.

The next goal would be all important and Felixstowe went in search of the reply that might change the course of the game but the third goal when it came went to Leiston just after the hour. Dennett produced a good run down the left and his fierce cross come shot was turned home by Stuart Roach from close range.

Leiston went hunting for more goals as the home heads dropped and Blair Hammond provided the fourth with a well struck shot five minutes later. Stuart Roach added the fifth heading home from McGlone's long throw and Danny Stanley completed a miserable afternoon for the home side hammering home the sixth from the edge of the area with five minutes remaining.

The last time the Seasiders conceded six goals was on 16th October 2002, when we lost 6-2 at Stanway Rovers.

With the game heading toward a goalless draw Danny Spurling came off the bench to fire home the winner for the Seasiders on the stroke of full time.
Paul Cudworth made a world class save to deny Beck in the first half and Alex Banthorpe in the Newmarket goal was at full stretch to turn over Edward's header in the second, but that apart neither keeper was severely tested as defences dominated.

Laws and Peachey replaced Morgan and Crump as the Seasiders' line up saw two changes from Tuesday winning team as they looked to take the winning formulae into today's league fixture at home to the Jockeys.

A strong wind blew down the ground from the Colneis end with Beck trying his luck from distance in the early exchange with both efforts failing to test Cudworth in the home goal.
Pemberton and Spencer made good ground down the flanks but failed to find a telling cross with Flitton and Elsom clearing comfortably.

Beck continued to look dangerous for the visitors forcing Cudworth to produce an excellent save far to his right to palm his shot away for a corner midway through the half. On the half hour Mhishi went close with his shot beaten away for a corner and though Newmarket finished the half strongly they could not find a way past the Felixstowe defensive pairing of Simmons and Symonds.

Edwards looked to have broken the deadlock on 65 minutes but the evergreen Banthorpe leapt to palm his header over the bar pictured right from Frost's corner. Fear headed wide for Newmarket when well placed and Beck again went close but neither side could find the telling finish.

The Second half saw both sides providing plenty of effort but lacking any decisive thrust in the final third. Danny Spurling making a long return from injury was on the first team bench for the first time this season and made his long awaited entry to Premier Division action with eight minutes remaining on the watch.

With the game heading toward a draw Frost crossed another corner and  when the ball ran to Danny Spurling on the six yard line he needed no second invitation to turn and thump the ball home from close range.

The goal was a big disappointment to a Newmarket team who had worked hard, defended well and looked to have earned a deserved point.
After five consecutive league defeats this was just the result the Seasiders needed and they will now be looking forward to next weeks home game with Leiston.

Felixstowe progressed to a second round tie, at home to Needham Market on 28th November, after an open flowing game of football which saw both sides create numerous chances.
The game got off to a flying start with Francis scoring from Woodbridge's first attack after only two minutes. Phillips equalised nine minutes later despite Ebanks' tackle and ten minutes before the break Seaman regained the lead for the Woodpeckers following a strong run down the left. Moments before the half time whistle Sheppard brought down Frost in the Woodbridge area with Phillips stepping up to blast home from the penalty spot.
Phillips completed his hat-trick four minutes into the second half and with Cudworth and Garnham both called into action on a number of occasions more goals appeared likely before Mr Magill blew for time and Felixstowe's first win in six games.

One change to Saturday's starting line up with Dwayne Edwards replacing Gavin Crane in attack.

Felixstowe started positively but it was Woodbridge who drew first blood with Berry threading the ball through to Joe Francis who out-sprinted the Felixstowe defence to fire home from the Woodpeckers first attack. Pemberton clipped the outside of Garnham's left hand post before Danny Phillips equalised with a shot that deflected off Ebank's and over Garnham in the home goal on eleven minutes.
Blake headed over when well placed from Francis' cross as the pace of Berry and Francis continued to pose problems for the visiting defence. Symonds cleared off the line from the dangerous Francis and Morgan headed wide of the Woodbridge goal from Edward's cross as the game flowed from end to end.
Woodbridge regained the lead on 35 minutes when once again Berry found space to quickly spring Ben Seaman on an attacking run down the Felixstowe right and he ran on to fire the ball under the diving Cudworth.
Felixstowe pressed forward and the pressure told as Frost was brought down by Sheppard six yards from goal. Danny Phillips stepped up to fire home the resulting penalty.

A double substitution at the interval saw Peachey and Buckle replace Crump and Morgan as Felixstowe looked to counter the pace of Francis and Berry.
Cudworth saved from Berry in the opening seconds of the half before Green made a saving tackle to deny Phillips who was increasing his influence on the game. Danny Phillips scored the winner from Pemberton's telling cross on 49 minutes of an entertaining game.
Garnham produced two good saves to deny the tireless Edwards and Cudworth also had to react quickly to keep out shots from Blake and Davies.
Unfortunately Woodbridge were reduced to ten players close to the final whistle when Francis was dismissed for Dissent.
When Blake struck the bar with two minutes remaining the final opportunity to take the game into extra time had gone and the Seasiders took their place in the second round.

A 70th minute goal from substitute Ben Goddard was all that separated the sides after an evenly contested and entertaining game which saw both teams create a number of scoring opportunities.
Pemberton struck the home crossbar, Cudworth produced an excellent diving save to deny Highfield and Spencer stung Attridge's hands with a rasping shot in a first half that lacked nothing but goals.
The introduction of Lawrence and Goddard saw Kirkley up the tempo which resulted in the only goal with Crane and Morgan both going close to an equaliser for the Seasiders.
The home win took Kirkley to 5th in the league.

Morgan and Spencer replaced the absent Buckle and Edwards with the Reserves' top scorer McDermott named on the bench.

Stone and Stokeld were lively from the start with Stone heading just wide from a long throw for Kirkley in the opening minutes. Cudworth saved from Stokeld following a positive run from Horton. Pemberton saw his shot cannon back off the home bar before Attridge saved from Simmons header as Frost followed up.
Crane and Phillips kept the home back line alert with Pemberton and Spencer both producing good runs down the flanks.
Cudworth made a stunning save to deny Highfield's well struck free-kick, Morgan deflected Chenery's fierce drive away for a corner and Spencer's drive brought the best out to Attridge, but at the break it was still goal-less.

The back line of Crump, Carnell, Simmons and Symonds had dealt well with the Kirkley forwards and with the Seasiders impressing at the start of the second half Lawrence and Goddard were introduced for the home side. The tempo noticeably increased and on 70 minutes the deadlock was broken.
Lawrence  and Horton combined for Ben Goddard to fire home the winner despite the efforts of defender and keeper on the line.

Goddard struck a post following a break away as Felixstowe pressed for an equaliser with Crane and Morgan both going close.  A good performance from the Seasiders but the final whistle marked the Seasiders 5th consecutive league defeat and a slide to 16th in the table.

Felixstowe will be disappointed not to have gained a point with a much improved performance on recent games. Gavin Crane fired the Seasiders ahead three minutes after the interval before Andy Jones equalised six minutes later with a curling free kick over the Felixstowe wall.
Ben Deacon headed home the winner at the far post from a by line cross for Needham with 18 minutes remaining of a competitive game. Felixstowe exerted pressure on the home goal without testing Jones and the home side hung on for the points.

Felixstowe posted three changes from Saturday's line up with Crump, Carnell and Crane in the starting eleven with Peachey injured and Spencer and Laws on the bench.

With 12 goals conceded in the last three games and just two scored Steve Potts was looking for greater commitment from his players and they did not fail on that count. Looking very smart in the new yellow away strip Felixstowe with the wind behind them made a positive start with Jones saving comfortably from Crane's early shot on goal.
